WHERE WILL GUATEMALA TAKE YOU?

Destination ideas, and how arrival really works.

Guatemala is more than the airport, Antigua and the lake. Start with where you want to end up. For each region below we explain the actual arrival point, the ways in, and the last connection to your door, so a request can become a clear proposal.

Destination idea a request we welcomeConfirmed in your proposal the route, aircraft or vehicle, access and price for your specific journey

Guatemala City & Antigua

Guatemala City · La Aurora International Airport · Antigua Guatemala

Destination idea

What it offers

The country’s gateway and its colonial city. Most journeys begin at La Aurora with an onward road transfer to the capital’s hotels or to Antigua, or with a short flight.

How arrival works

Is your pickup at the commercial terminal, a private aviation facility, a hotel or a residence? The transfer between those points is a real segment of your journey; we name the actual pickup and handover in your proposal. Antigua can be reached by road or, where a landing site is approved, by helicopter with a chauffeur for the last minutes.

Good to know

Share your airline flight number for an airport pickup. Road times between the airport and Antigua vary a great deal with traffic; your proposal gives a realistic window rather than a single figure.

Western Highlands

Lake Atitlán · Chichicastenango · Quetzaltenango (Xela) · Huehuetenango and the Cuchumatanes

Destination idea

What it offers

Lake Atitlán and its villages, the Chichicastenango market, the highland city of Xela and the Cuchumatanes beyond. Each is a distinct travel area with its own roads and arrival points.

How arrival works

Which exact town or property is your endpoint, and is the final approach by road, by lake boat, or by a separately approved landing? Not every lake property can be reached by road or by helicopter; many are reached by boat from a dock. We confirm the arrival point and the last connection for your specific stay.

Good to know

Lake Atitlán and Antigua are the journeys we arrange most often; see the helicopter page for the landing options at the lake, including Hyacinth Estate.

Petén & the Maya north

Flores / Santa Elena · Tikal · Yaxhá · Uaxactún · Lake Petén Itzá

Destination idea

What it offers

The great Maya sites of the north. Flores, on Lake Petén Itzá, is the gateway; Tikal and the other sites are an onward journey from there.

How arrival works

Are you connecting through the airport at Flores, staying in Flores or El Remate, or visiting a remote site? Tikal itself is reached by road from the gateway, and park entry and guiding are arranged separately. We spell out the onward road, the guide or entry arrangement and timing in your proposal. No landing inside a park is implied.

Good to know

Most travellers reach Flores on a scheduled airline flight from Guatemala City, which is booked separately from HYACINTH. What we arrange is the chauffeur at each end and the onward connections; a helicopter segment within the region is quoted individually and only where a route and landing are approved. Ask us and we will say plainly what can be arranged. El Mirador is a specialist expedition; tell us if it is on your list.

Verapaces

Cobán · Lanquín · Semuc Champey

Destination idea

What it offers

Cloud forest, coffee country and the turquoise pools of Semuc Champey in Alta Verapaz, near Lanquín.

How arrival works

Where does the transport actually finish, and who handles the remaining road and walking segment? The final approach to Semuc Champey is a rural mountain road followed by walking on site, which matters for timing, vehicles and mobility. We confirm the suitable vehicle, current access and any proposed landing point for your journey; no direct landing at the pools is implied.

Good to know

By road this is a long day from the capital; by air it is a flight toward the region plus a ground segment. Tell us your dates, party and how you would like to spend the time, and we will propose the workable combination.

Izabal & the Caribbean

Río Dulce · Puerto Barrios · Livingston

Destination idea

What it offers

Guatemala’s Caribbean coast, the Río Dulce gorge and the Garifuna town of Livingston.

How arrival works

Río Dulce, Puerto Barrios and Livingston are different arrival nodes, not names for one place. Livingston is usually reached by boat from Río Dulce or Puerto Barrios, so a journey there includes a dock, a boat and a handoff to your hotel. We confirm the boat arrangement, its operating conditions and the exact handover in your proposal; there is no continuous road transfer into Livingston.

Good to know

Waterfront stays on the river or the lake are reached from their own docks. Tell us the property and we will plan the whole chain, by road or air to the coast and by water for the last leg.

Pacific coast & Southwest

El Paredón · Monterrico · Retalhuleu

Destination idea

What it offers

Black-sand beaches and surf at El Paredón and Monterrico on the Pacific, and the inland attractions around Retalhuleu in the southwest.

How arrival works

Which coastal accommodation or inland destination is intended, and what is the complete final approach? A regional airfield is not a beachfront landing; most coastal stays end with a road segment. We confirm the arrival point and the last leg for your property.

Good to know

The coast is a comfortable road journey from the capital or Antigua for a day or a weekend; we can keep a chauffeur with you for the stay.

Eastern Guatemala

Chiquimula · Esquipulas

Destination idea

What it offers

The east of the country, including Esquipulas and its basilica, a destination for family visits and pilgrimage as much as for travel.

How arrival works

Tell us the purpose of the journey and the exact endpoint. Eastern journeys are most often arranged by road; a cross-border continuation, for example to Copán in Honduras, is a separate arrangement that we would discuss with you individually.

Somewhere else?

Any town, property or landing point in Guatemala

Destination idea

Name the place

Both inquiry forms accept any destination. A place that is not listed here is not unavailable; it simply has not been written up yet. Tell us where you want to end up and we will say what can be arranged and how the arrival works.

Regional groupings follow INGUAT’s tourism regions and are editorial planning clusters, not a list of operating areas. Geography describes typical access, not live road conditions, park rules or operating clearance. Every journey is confirmed individually: route, aircraft or vehicle, landing access, timing and price appear in your proposal.
